Hi everyone, I am back from my long-overdue tech break!!!
I took some time to refresh and reboot. As a health practitioner, I highly recommend it to everyone. Sometimes, just going off-grid, focusing on personal health and wellness, and getting quiet is exactly what one needs. I traveled to Africa and then to Italy, visited family and friends, and did a lot of reading, writing, and research—all things that I love. So, hello to you all!

Trattoria Sora Lella opened in 1959, so of course, Alice (My liaison in Rome and chef extraordinaire) and I had to dine there because if one is looking for an Iconic trattoria with authentic Roman dishes that are traditional, local, and regional, this is the place.
The trattoria is located right over the bridge on Tiberina island between the ghetto (this word is used affectionately here) and Trastevere.
When their doors first opened, the area was a meeting place for gangsters and derelicts alike but today this neighborhood is known as a jewel unto itself. Over 50 years later it is still owned by the founding family( google their history it’s amazing) and run by Massimo and his sister, Elena.
I was there to try their Carciofi (artichoke) alla Romana and the alla giudia (Jewish). Still, I must say I had the best lamb of my life. Every bite of everything we tasted and savored was seared into my memory that night: The unusually warm and wonderful evening at the end of a bridge, overlooking the river, in the very best of company …. Need I say more?! I cannot thank Massimo and his staff enough for their exceptional hospitality, never ending smiles and unforgettable cuisine.

Ladispoli, a comune (municipality) in the metropolitan city of Rome in the region of Lazio, just had their 71st Sagra Del Carciofo (aka Artichoke Festival) which I was thrilled to attend ! I was blessed to have met with Favio Camille and his lovely wife,Stefania Ligi. Favio’s family are third generation growers of the locally grown Carciofo Romanesco. Ladispoli is the sister city of Castroville, California our growing region in the US …. So, of course I had to come, see and taste for myself. If the walls could only speak of Hotel Locarno’s storied past. This isn’t just a five-star hotel (inaugurated in 1925). It’s a feeling unto itself. I was referred here because this place is known to inspire all kinds of creativity. If Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masina were among the habitué and Jack Kerouac and Gregory Corso were known to have a warm seat at the bar, well then, this is the place for me. The hotel’s new owner, Maria Teresa Celli, when renovating, brought back to life the spirit of the 1920s ( I should have been alive !!! ), a time when Artists like Basquiat and Borges still meandered the storied halls. In the 90’s, Ms. Celli bought and connected the adjacent building, which seemed fitting since it was often chosen as the setting for theatre, movies, and theatrical performances. And, if writers and artists like Bernard Weber, Victor Cavallo, Alain Elkann, and Antonio Mega Ferreira (whose books were all titled “Hotel Locarno”) all launched here, then perhaps, so shall I. #goals #writer #inspiration #roma #ladolcevita #grateful #besthotelinrome #writersinspiration
